The Giza complex consists of three main pyramids, six small pyramids, the Great Sphinx, the afterlife and the Valley Temple. The Great Pyramid The Great Pyramid of King Khufu will be your first destination within the complex, as it is one of the largest structures in the world and the last intact structure of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The structure was constructed in 2580 B.C. which makes it over 4,500 years old. It was built in 20 years using 2,300,000 limestone blocks weighing 2.5 tons each and a workforce of 100,000 skilled freelancers. The pyramid stood at 147 meters (481 ft) which made it the tallest building in the world for 3,800 years until the construction of Lincoln Cathedral in England in 1311. Over the past thousands of years, the pyramid has been shrouded in mysteries and fringe theories due to its complex interior design compared to its size. Great Sphinx Statue The Great Sphinx occupies a special place among all the artifacts in Egypt and perhaps the world. It is unique because of its age, size, and questionable origin. The Great Sphinx is 73 meters (240 ft) high by 19 meters (66 ft) wide and was carved from a single limestone rock. It has the shape of a mythical creature called the Sphinx with the body of a lion and the head of King Khafra’s man to represent wisdom and strength. He is known in Egypt as the Sphinx, which is an Arabic word for the Father of Terror. The Valley Temple The Valley Temple is where the mummification process took place. Built within the Old Kingdom (2686-2134 BC), the valley is one of the best preserved structures of the ancient Egyptian civilization and a source of great information about the mummification of ancient Egypt. The canyon is made entirely of limestone and granite and holds magnificent diorite statues of King Khafra. The Grand Egyptian Museum The Grand Egyptian Museum is a golden gateway leading to cosmic ancient Egyptian creations of celestial intelligence cultivated through 5,000 years of continuous innovation and vibrant artistic imagination. Within this colossal marvel, there is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to discover some of the greatest monuments and artifacts ever made which include: the Hanging Obelisk, the Statue of King Ramesses El, the Ten Statues of King Senusret, the Great Staircase, the Statues of Ptolemaic Kings and Queens, the Royal Victory Column of King Merkenneptah, and the Royal Parade. It was built by Imhotep, the infamous minister of Pharaoh Djoser. The pyramid has a unique six-step design and stands at a height of 62 meters made entirely of limestone and surrounded by a first-of-its-kind complex. Memphis The city of Memphis was the first official capital of ancient Egypt under the hands of its founder, King Mina, to be the life of the two lands after the unification of Egypt 4,500 years ago. It earned the title of the land of endurance and beauty, seat of government, trade and art under the god Ptah (patron saint of artisans). One interesting fact about Memphis is that the city was home to the great temple of Hut-Ka-Ptah which means (Enclosure of the Ka of Ptah) and translated in Greek as Ai-Gy-Ptos which is the etymological root of the word Egypt.
